It is a parastatal organization charged with responsibilities of collecting and disseminating all official statistics in Botswana. It is tasked to collect, process, analyse, publish, and disseminate official statistics in areas such as environmental, energy, communications and household conditions. https://www.gov.bw/en/citizens/topics/statistics/ Department of Water Affairs https://www.water.gov.bw/ is one of three technical Departments within the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources (MMEWR). It assesses surface water. Groundwater assessment are shared between DWA and DGS with DGS focusing mainly on preliminary assessment work and DWA in most cases following up the work done by DGS to accurately define groundwater reservoirs and develop well fields. In terms of development and supply functions, this is a shared responsibility between DWA and other key stakeholders such as Water Utilities Corporation, District Councils, Ministry of Local Government (MLG) and Ministry of Agriculture (MOA). DWA develops water accounts concerning water production and consumption. The World Bank also sponsors a program called WAVES-Botswana for Water Accounting (WA) activities.
