Collector name Responsible ministries include Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Mining - Directorate of Resource Surveys and Remote Sensing and Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. The ICT Authority assists in publishing their data as open data. Mining cadastres information is published by Kenya Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MoM).
Mining cadastres are the only information that is publicly available, produced by the Kenya Ministry of Energy and Minerals. Together with Trimble, they have developed a mining cadastre portal to improve transparency and promote investment in the Kenya mining sector. Other cadastral records in urban or rural areas do not seem to be fully captured to date. It seems that Kenya’s land administration still needs to develop a cadastre of public land. According to the World Bank’s Land Governance Assessment Framework (LGAF) report from 2016, Kenya’s National Land Commission holds the mandate to identify public land and is required to prepare and keep a geo-referenced and authenticated database of all public land and evaluate all parcels of public land based on land capability classification, land resources mapping consideration, overall potential for use, and resource evaluation data for land use planning. [...] This process is not yet complete. A register detailing all land converted from public land to private land use should also be prepared but is yet to be done.” See here p. 53 https://siteresources.worldbank.org/INTLGA/Resources/Final_Kenya_Land_Governance_Assessment_Report_06272016.pdf Cadastral records are paper-based, if available. The Survey of Kenya holds paper-based records of cadastral maps. “Land information in Kenya is still held mostly in paper form, managed manually, and the paper records themselves are not optimally organized. The cadastral maps such as the specific boundary cadastral plans, Registry Index Maps, Preliminary Index maps and related imagery are generally held at the Survey of Kenya, the government survey agency. Data on land ownership such as the land registers and associated documents such as allotment letters are held at various land registries under the Department of Lands.“ p. 55 https://siteresources.worldbank.org/INTLGA/Resources/Final_Kenya_Land_Governance_Assessment_Report_06272016.pdf The Kenya Open Data Portal has a few datasets on mining distribution per ward in Kisumu county, mining implementation project status, Percentage Distribution of Agricultural Parcels, Proportion of Parcels under Irrigation County Estimates 2005/6, Percentage Parcels using Fertilizer County Estimates 2005/6, and Proportion of Parcels under Irrigation County Estimates 2005/6.
